Local Delivery: Deliver to Nearby Customers on Your Schedule
The Local Delivery feature in Calla - Delivery & Pickup Date lets you offer a third fulfillment option alongside Delivery and Pickup so nearby customers can choose a delivery date and time that fits your local routes.
❓ What Is Local Delivery?
Local Delivery adds a dedicated fulfillment method for orders you deliver yourself within your service area. Customers enter their zip/postal code on the storefront, and the date and time picker only appears for eligible areas so you never receive a local delivery order you can't fulfill.
Local Delivery appears on the Product Page, Cart Page, and Cart Drawer.
Common use cases include:
- Bakeries & cake shops: same day or next day cake delivery within the city
- Grocery & meal prep: scheduled weekly delivery routes with order limits per slot
- Restaurants & caterers: delivery windows that match kitchen capacity
⚙ How to Set Up Local Delivery
Step 1: Navigate to the 'Delivery & Pickup Schedule' tab to start managing your store's local delivery options.
Step 2: Turn ON. Select 'Add a local delivery location' to expand your store's reach and improve convenience for local customers.
Step 3: Choose your store location from the list to set up local delivery details for that specific site.
Step 4: Click 'Next' to continue configuring delivery options for your chosen store location.
Step 5: Select partical or exact matching type
Step 6: Add the desired delivery zone by including a specific postal code.
Step 7: Press 'Save' to confirm your local delivery settings and start offering tailored delivery to your customers.

Matching Type: Partial Match vs. Exact Match
The Matching type controls how strictly a customer's code must match the codes you entered.
- Partial Match (prefix match): The customer's code is eligible if it starts with any code in your list. This lets one short entry cover a whole cluster of neighboring codes.
Example (US): You add 1000 to your list.

Best for: covering an entire city, district, or region without listing every individual code. In most countries, postal codes are hierarchical — the first digits identify the wider area so a short prefix naturally maps to a delivery zone.
⚠️ Watch out: short prefixes can match more than you intend. Adding 1would match every code starting with 1. If a prefix covers too much, add the over-reached codes to Zip/Postal codes to exclude .
- Exact Match: The customer's code is eligible only if it is identical to a code in your list, character for character.

Best for: precise control over a small, well-defined service area. For example, a bakery that only delivers to 6 specific zip codes, or areas where neighboring codes are close on paper but far apart by road.

🌍 Zip/Postal Code Formats Around the World
The app works with any postal code format. Here's how codes look in different regions, and how Partial Match applies to each:
- United States: 5 digits (eg, 10001 in Manhattan, New York). Partial Match on 1000 covers the 10001– 10009 range, which spans several Manhattan neighborhoods.
- United Kingdom alphanumeric outcode + encode (eg, SW1A 1AA in Westminster, London). Partial Match on the outcode SW1A covers that whole postcode district.
- Netherlands: 4 digits + 2 letters (eg, 1012 AB in central Amsterdam). Partial Match on 1012 covers the district.
- Germany / France: 5 digits (eg, 10115 in Berlin-Mitte, 75001 in the 1st arrondissement of Paris). Partial Match on 75 covers all of Paris, since every Paris postal code begins with 75.
- Japan: 7 digits written with a hyphen (eg, 150-0002 in Shibuya, Tokyo). Partial Match on 150 covers the Shibuya area.
- Singapore: 6 digits (eg, 018956 in Marina Bay). The first two digits identify the postal sector, so Partial Match on 01 covers the Raffles Place/Marina area.
- Australia: 4 digits (eg, 3000 for Melbourne CBD). Partial Match on 30 covers Melbourne's inner suburbs ( 3000– 3099).
💡 Tip: Enter codes in the same format your customers naturally type them (with or without spaces/hyphens). If your customers type codes inconsistently, add both variants. For example, 150-0002 and 1500002 or use a shorter Partial Match prefix that appears before the separator.
🛠 FAQ
- What do customers see if their zip/postal code isn't eligible?
The Local Delivery date and time picker is not shown. Customers simply choose another available fulfillment method (Delivery or Pickup). No error is displayed.
- What's the difference between Delivery and Local Delivery?
Delivery is for orders you ship (carrier/postal). Local Delivery is for orders your own team delivers within a defined zip/postal code area, with its own schedule, slots, fees, and limits.
- Can customers switch between fulfillment methods in the cart drawer?
Yes. Switching between Delivery, Pickup, and Local Delivery in the cart drawer is supported, with smoother switching available on the Pro plan and above.
- Is Local Delivery available on the Free plan?
No. It’s available for Pro and Elite plan.
